Mechanization

The projected throughput level of cargo is expected to pick-up in a phased manner for Karaikal Port and the facility is planned keeping this aspect in view.

The facility planning of Karaikal Port Private Limited ensured that

  • Equipment / infrastructure will be add-on-type and state-of-the-art.
  • Equipment and its rating, particularly at the berth(s), will match the international trade practices to ensure freight benefits, least congestion at port, etc.
  • Keep the facility commensurate with project cargo requirement.
  • Cause least interruptions to the on-going operations while integrating the next phase equipment with the operating facility.

Hence due to the growing demand and increased need to cater to the increased traffic flow the Bulk Material handling equipments were planned as part of Mechanization.

Ship Unloader:

Salient Features:

Description

The ship unloader serves for unloading of Coal from Ships. The material is unloaded by means of a grab which loads it into the hopper. Then it is extracted from the hopper by means of Belt feeder installed in the unloader. This belt feeder transfers the material on to the cross Conveyor and to a transfer house. The Unloader is provided with rail clamps and storm anchoring pins for anti storm purpose in out-of-operation position.

Dust development is limited by dust protection walls and in addition by means of water spraying system. The unloader is fed with water by a rubber hose, which is installed in a hose reeling drum.

Belt Conveyor System (Receiving at Berth and Transportation to Stockyard) :

    Description

    In order to facilitate unloading facility to discharge cargo on a continuous basis the stacking system should have matching capability not only with respect to continuous operation but also in terms of handling capacity. Hence the stacking capacity per yard conveyor will be rated as 4000 TPH, i.e. matching with combined rated capacity of two unloaders.

    The reclaiming system is generally influenced by the stacking method. For stockyard built by mobile stacking equipment it is inevitable that the reclaiming system will also be similar.

    Truck Loading Station:

    Description:

    Truck Loading Station # TLS will be used for loading truck. Three (3) bays are required for truck loading. Each bay will have truck loading system complete with gate, truck loading spout, weighing system and necessary Electrical & Control System along with 3 Nos of Weigh Bridge.



    In-motion Wagon Loading System

    Description

    The In- Wagon Loading Station will be used for loading a rake of open type Wagons while in motion hauled by loco. Type of wagons in a rake will generally be identical .However a rake consisting of mixed (type) wagons with different payload may also arrive at Port for receiving coal. Hence the Wagon Loading System shall be capable to handle the above mixed wagon rake. Prior to starting of load operation, the Silo will be filled with the type of cargo planned to be dispatched by rail.
